Augmentation of Energy needs through Biogas and Afforestation for Tribals.
Augmentation of Energy needs through Biogas and Afforestation for Tribals.
The project had focus on two GEF thematic areas Biodiversity and Climate Change. To mitigate the loss of biodiversity, the project had a provision of creating plantations for fuel wood, fodder and timbers. This helped not only in reducing the pressure on the existing biomass, but also negating the exploitation of the natural resources by enabling communities, gaining skills in managing plantations. The emphasis was on fast growing, multi-use tree species that are valued by the locals, and were locally endangered.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
100 Pressure cookers were provided in partnership with the Energy Department and the community with cost contributions of 20% from each. This reduced their cooking time and fuel consumption, but also provided more hygienic conditions, reduced drudgery and provided them clean nutritious cooked food.100 Pressure cookers were provided in partnership with the Energy Department and the community with cost contributions of 20% from each. Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Equally important is the factor that the change over to a clean fuel technology also has lead to a greater awareness on hygiene; and this in turn increased the capacity of the beneficiaries to accept simple sanitation methods.
