Conservation of Vegetational Diversity for Sustainable Livelihood.
The focus of the project was to regenerate forest cover with indigenous species and promote sustainable farming techniques such as organic manure and bio-fertilizers, cropping system and crop rotation. The project involved Participatory Rural Appraisal, Nursery raising, distribution and plantation of seeds. The proposed project basically dealt with the problem of deforestation, land degradation and non-eco-friendly agricultural practices. The target groups of the project were small and marginal farmers and the farm women of the proposed project area. The main objectives of the project included regeneration of forest cover with indigenous practices, promotion of sustainable farming techniques viz. organic manure, bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides, cropping system and crop rotation.

Gender Focus
Many women SHGs were formed. Farm women community was oriented on soil and water conservation and sustainable agriculture for food security. Many women SHGs were formed. Mass participation evaluation provided occasion for beneficiaries to review the progress of the program to assess the impact of the program in their daily life and to visualize the impact of the program on the general ecology and the restoration of ecological balance. The activities such as hill slope forestry, sustainable farming and hortipastural practices were undertaken focusing on specific target groups. The impact envisaged was the demonstrative effect of sustainable farming and hortipastural practices. High returns with low inputs were realized with the help of demonstration
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Nursery raising-nursery raising for hill slope forestry. Agro forestry (sustainable farming) and hortipastural for mining. Distribution of plantation of seeds- 20,000 seedlings raised for the hill slope plantation. Through women?s committee members, the seedlings were distributed with maximum of 4000 to each village. As far ass Agro-forestry is concerned 20,000 seedlings were raised and among the 400 women beneficiaries of 5 villages with regard to hortipastural, farms. 20,000 were raise and distributed. Altogether 60,000 seedlings will be raised for the plantation with the help of women beneficiaries committee. To promote the awareness over the purpose for the program and the importance of forestry, agroforestrty and hortipastural, farming, the methods were village wise demonstration, model plots and training. Exposure visits to forestry and horticultural stations such as Mysore, Chittoor, Coimbatore and Periyakulum. These visits gave them direct knowledge of the conservation techniques and sustainable farming.
