Rationale
The rush and reed based industries which were economically and culturally important have been in existence among the villagers of this area for a long period. The invasion of polythene as an alternative has discouraged this environmentally sound industry.
The micro environment in which reed grows help conserve wetlands and associated fish and bird species.
Objectives:
Awareness raising on biodiversity conservation, propagation of reed varieties and manufacture of handcrafted items using reeds, develop a sales strategy and building up of community organizations
Educational, training and awareness programmes on rush and reed associated bio diversity,
Identify suitable areas and persons for reed cultivation,
Identify the demand for rush and reed based products by a market research.
