Integrated Farming Technique Promotion
Sine its inception in 1990, the Integrated Farming Techniques Promotion Project has been
continuously undertaking environmental development activities. The project has been facing a few utmost environmental problems i.e. overuse of chemical substance in manufacturing and agricultural process and unregulated exploitation of natural resources. After washing and draining into the water bodies , the chemical residue applied in agricultural practices are imposing threats to the water species as well as human beings. The number of fishes dying of chemical effect is increasing every year. There has been no agencies taking responsibility to cope with the problems. Especially in the area of the two Tambols , there are Moon River and its tributaries draining into the Mekhong River which are, to a high degree, affected by the problem. The two Tambols are quite poor in term of natural resources while the rate of chemical application is considered one of the highest.
In addition to the reduction of the rate of chemical application, community capacity-building on indigenous resources and paddy processing management is one of the many approaches leading to sustainability.
Project goals or objectives (including GEF problem-area addressed by projects):
1. To raise awareness of population on natural resources conservation
2. To reduce the rate of chemical application in agricultural processing
3. To support the innovation of chemical-free agricultural practices
4. To build capacity of CBOs in the area of community resources management
Activities to be carried out under project:
1. To convene workshop / seminars as follows:
1.1 Twice meetings for integrated farmers, 50 farmers in each
1.2 Twice seminars on ?The Effect of Chemical Application in Manufacturing Processes? for farmers residing in the naighbourhood of natural water sources
1.3 Twice meetings for members of community forest committee
1.4 Seminar on ?Women and Indigenous resources management?
2. To launch activity on plantation and vegetation in the community forests and along the banks of natural water bodies
3. To release water species into water bodies on religious days
4. To support community activities as follows:
4.1 Providing 20 farmers annually with factors for manufacture
4.2 forging networking of agricultural product processing
Project participants and/or beneficiaries:
1. Farmers residing next to Lam Nam Toey ( Toey River), Rong Ma EE Khao and Lam Nam Phlubphla
2. Farmers residing in the upper Siaw River
Anticipated results of project:
1. The rate of application of chemical substance in manufacturing process is reduced by at least 5 % annually.
2. The natural water bodies teem with water species and the effect of chemical substance upon them is reduced substantially.
3. The activities of CBOs on the management of indigenous resources are realized.
Evaluation of the project:
The project will be evaluated by members of the 8 participating CBOs and the 2 Tambol Administrative Organizations. Also, the evaluating team of the project is participating in the process.
