Proposal to Prepare a Baseline Assessment and Preliminary Conceptual Model for the Belize Barrier Reef World Heritage Site on which the COMPACT Country Programme Strategy will be based
This project seeks to conduct a management audit and needs assessment for each protected area within the Belize Reef World Heitage Site as part of the process to complete the Baseline Assessment and prepare the preliminary Conceptual Model for the COMPACT project. The project will provide an opportunity to compile, analyze and disseminate key information on the Belize Barrier Reef World Heritage Site that will facilitate the identification of priority actions that can be undertaken by local communities with grants from the COMPACT project. The reports and analysis that result from the project will facilitate dialogue among stakeholders and other potential partners, on the problems and opportunities of community participation and action in and around the protected areas within the BBRWHS.

The expected results for this project are:
a) A profile for each protecte area within the BBRWHS will have been compiled,
b) An inventory of all the resources of each protected area within the BRRWHS will have been completed.
c) The portfolio of projects currently associated with the BBRWHS will have been documented,
d) A portfolio of recommended priority projects already prepared, on behalf of stakeholders of the BBRWHS that may meet approval with minimal enhancement, would have been documented.
e) The profile of each group of stakeholder that has been identified will have been compiled.
f) A stakeholder consultation process wil have completed and documented.
g) Management practices and limitations in each protected area within the World Heritage Site will have been documented.
h) The baseline assessment of the protected areas within the Belize Barrier Reef World Heritage Site that outlines an approach for the process of engaging stakeholders will have been completed.
i) The preliminary conceptual model that will be the basis for Belize's Country Programme Strategy for the implementation of COMPACT.
