The rice mill and its accessories have been put into operation satisfactorily , as expected avoiding the use of fossil-fuel driven mill. The rotating fund has been operational.

Participatory Evaluation: (Conducted on March 31, 2003)

Participants: About 70 participants from participating and surrounding communities, GEF/SGP NC, representatives of THA-01-04, an NSC member and a member of an NGO in the area.

Methods: Half-day meeting in which ,objectives, undertaken activities and results were put forwarded for discussion.

Impact:

The emerging water-powered rice mill has widened the view of communities in the area, in addition to reducing drudgery of women and youth. They would no more haul sacks of paddy back and forth for 54 km. just for milling. The community expressed that water power was important
and watershed had to be well protect to ensure running water for power.
Future Plan:

1.The mill will be totally managed by community members: service , fee collection, maintenance, rotating fund , conservation of watershed to ensure the right head and flow of water and planning for emergency during dry season.
2.The village committee will go on with public relation as to how the mill contribute to stabilizing the emission of Greenhouse Gas.

Note: The approach was replicated in Mae Hong Sorn Province with an additional use of water power - driving soil-cement brick machine.
