Baseline Assessment project with the objective of reviewing and completing the information about the site; involving the ecological significance of the site, its key species, habitats, and ecosystems; what is known about the status and trends of biodiversity in and around the PA; the indicators of biodiversity and ecosystem health considered as important by the local communities; the threats to biodiversity and the protected area and their causes; the conservation objectives of the protected area related to the species, habitats, ecosystems, etc. documented or not formally documented, and the establishment of a dataset of information describing the biological diversity of the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP); conducting community consultations to contextualize community perceptions on the relevance and fucntion of biodiversity in the PA, analyze all relationship vis-a-vis the biodiversity use practices in and around the PA.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
Barangay Marufinas, one of the barangays where the BA was conduct, is composed of 95% Tagbanuas, an indigenous peoples group. They were also participants in the surveys, workshop, focused group discussions, interviews of key informants for that barangay/village. In the other places, Barangay Tagabent and Cabayugan, another tribal group of Bataks, though small, were also part of the participating community in that area.
Gender Focus
During the conduct of the BA, the participants include both men and women from the community.
