Sibuyan Island Ecotourism Development Program
The proposed project is a biodiversity conservation undertaking through the promotion and institutionalization of ecotourism programs and projects and setting-up of an island-wide network that will serve as support mechanism for environmental conservation and management.
The project intends to assist local stakeholders develop and institutionalize Sibuyan ecotourism programs and activities that will support and complement the existing tourism and visitor management strategies of NIPAP aimed at preserving and protecting biodiversity of the Island, particularly the Mt. Guiting-Guiting.
It will initiate and undertake activities that will help develop and enhanc ecotourism program management, linkaging and networking capabilities of the local stakeholders. It will assist the NGOs and POs of the three municipalities in developing and implementing ecotourism activities that will provide income generating opportunities.

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Experiences of Olango island in managing ecotourism program generated alternative livelihood and employment for local residents (catering services, guides, boat and other equipment for rental not to mention the opportunities for the promotion of cultural practices in the island). Case studies of various experiences in other countries which embarked on ecotourism program showed that the most significant benefit for most rural communities are livelihood and jobs generation such as guiding, transport and catering services and homestay, among others.
Capacity - Building Component
Series of skills training for the NGOs/POs and Stakeholders shall be conducted in the following areas of concern:
1. Orientation on Ecotourism
2. Skills training on Product Development, Packaging and Marketing
3. Strategic Planning and Management
4. Environmental Awareness and Solid Waste Management
5. Tour Guiding and other related services
