Understanding and strengthening people's forestry: proposal for detailed documentation of community conserved forest areas in uttarakhand and possible intervention in select areas.
Project aims to assess the significance of conservation and management of bio-diversity, its impact or support to the traditional livelihoods, opprttunity for women to assess existing legal policy and institutional support and to make an action plan for capacity building of dalit wood carvers.
Project assessed the conservation and management initiatives of biodiversity including agro-biodiversity and its role to protecting traditional livelihoods viz. Pastoralism, medicinal plant collection, Ringal bamboo weaving, woodcarving etc., understand the links between community conservation of forest and grassland areas and the major opportunities and constraints faced by women and woodcarvers of dalit community, explore the exiting and proposed legal policy and institutional support and to make an action plan for dalit woodcarvers and capacity building of the women for enhancement of their livelihood opportunity.
