The project indicates that there is a growing awareness of the pressures being placed on the same resources that the membership depends on for their livelihood. The fact that the management has embraced educational programmes to try to alleviate the problems indicates that some of the cure can come from within the organization(s)/cooperatives. This effort needs additional support and encouragement.

The general membership of the Fishing Cooperatives had increased their awareness about the need to protect and conserve the resources, and had improved their knowledge about the laws and regulations pertaining to the sector. The Cooperatives recognized the need for better monitoring and management of the resources, but mentioned that there should be scientific justification for increased protection measures when these are applied. There is also a need for thorough consultation among all the stake-holders when any further protection of marine resources is being considered.
