Pilot Project for the Reconversion of ?Traditional Lagoon Fishermen into Professional off-Lagoon Fishermen
This project aims at creating an initial capacity for local fishermen to develop and generalise outer lagoon fishing in the island of Rodrigues. Tha main objective consists of acquisition and operationalisation of a fully equipped fishing boat for outer lagoon fishing that will be used both for empowerment through training of members and for income generation for the persons involved in the project, including women. The rationale behind the project lies in the current government policy aiming at releasing stress on the already over-exploited resources of the Rodrigues lagoon. GEF/SGP funds will be for partially funding the boat, project personnel and labour, and training workshops.
