Capacity building for bird watchers in theSouth Easthern Anatolian Region
Popular bird monitoring activities in Turkey have been considerably developed in recent years particularly due to several actions of the Society for the Protection of Nature (DHKD). However, in South Eastern Anatolian Region, in spite of its importance and riches for bird life, deficiency of bird watcher handicap among other things to obtain data required for protection of areas with a certain capacity for natural life.
The project aims to introduce bird watching especially among young people as well as to enhance the capabilities of already existing birders in the region. Therefore the results of the first waterfowl counting in the region will be illustrative not only for the actual status of bird species but also for the changes of their eventual positions in the future. Another gain of the project could be the determination of some potentially important bird areas that did not attract attention previously; so could be obvious which precautions for protection in this area should be taken.
