Pilot Project to Involve Youth as 'Urban Environment Pollution Watch' to Reduce Air Pollution Through Community Traffic Management
The Green Youth Group of Mihan (Youth Green Group of Iran) has proposed a project to promote community participation toward an environmentally sustainable transportation plan. A small local community will be carefully selected (one or two schools based on the results of the immediate studies). The awareness of the pilot community with regards to the threats and causes of air pollution and the results of community participation to control it will be elevated through well prepared educational materials, sessions, and workshops based on technical as well as social experiences. As a side activity, household energy efficiency will also be revealed and promoted. The project aims for a successful model to be easily extended to the whole community leading to a powerful and sustainable community participation to save the environment. The first stage involves information gathering under the guidance of qualified, experienced specialists and consultants who will also assist in processing the data to be used in planning the proposal. The planning grant is to support the information gathering.
