Developing a community model to reduce CH4 emission from paddy rice cultivation in Dien Ban District, Quang Nam Province
The concept of the proposed project meets the goal of GEF/SGP by reducing greenhouse gas emission from paddy rice cultivation through innovative water management regimes with intermittent irrigation technical practices. The associated benefits also include reduction of water and electricity use for paddy rice production and yield increase. The proposed project aims to focus on transferring technology on water management regimes with intermittent irrigation technical practices and building technical capacity for the local community. It will also give priority to awareness raising on environmental protection and climate change issue for local communities. The proposed project may take place in Dien Ban District, one of the main paddy rice cultivation areas in Quang Nam province.

The primary aims of the planning grant are to promote the participation of key stakeholders of the proposed project, including local authorities and relevant agencies and communities, and provide scientific basis for the project development. Major activities of the project include conducting surveys on social economic conditions of the proposed project site, identifying proposed project objectives and activities and assessing their feasibility, and providing needed technical assistance in project development and writing project proposal which will be submitted to GEF/SGP for review and appraisal; and identifying possibilities for project synergies and resource mobilisation.
