The YMCA continued to fulfill its mission of ?helping individuals to develop spirit, mind, and body?, by providing a number of under-privileged youth with opportunities that they would not have otherwise. The number of youths who benefited from this project, and the effort expended to recruit them, is a measure of the commitment that the YMCA places on reaching out to those who really need the help.

One hundred (100) youths and twenty-four (24) youth leaders enjoyed the experience of four Environmental Discovery Camps in different parts of the country where they were treated to lectures, slide presentations, etc. all intended to expose them to the biological diversity of Belize.

The YMCA project provided an opportunity for children to participate in educational activities that foster environmental awareness and generated a commitment to protecting biological diversity, through exposure to the rain forest, mangroves, and marine areas of Belize.
