Environmental benefit: The project contributed to the evolving interest to promote eco-tourism in the natural reserved area around Wadi Gaza. A profound survey and study on the cultural heritages of the Wadi was conducted to understand the relation between the inhabitants and the Wadi in the past and link this to the current situation.
Capacity building: Institutional capacity building has built up through the voluntary work of eight graduates who were coached by an expert in eco-tourism. This will potentially allow for further development of the project.
Information dissemination: The grantee organized a workshop for local community activists involving the university researchers, NGOs and concerned ministries. This was followed up by a site visit for the historical and ecological sites in the Wadi.
Documentary film was produced on the historical and environment significance of the Wadi Gaza and 50 bilingual copies of the film were distributed to the concerned partners. 1000 packages of greeting cards and 1000 copies of a bilingual booklet were distributed. In corporation with the Ministries of Tourism and Education, site trip was facilitated for 100 female secondary school students and teachers to promote ecotourism and demonstrate the value of the site.
Community building: The surrounding community of the Wadi was involved to determine the type of eco?tourism investments that could potentially have a positive return on their livelihood conditions.
Replication / scaling up: Another workshop for 30 Donors and international agencies was organized to demonstrate the importance of building up on the finding of the survey and recognizing the value of the eco-tourism activities, conditioned by full enforcement of the legislations that would control any desecration over the Wadi?s
