Project Characteristics and Results
Replication of project activities
In the Magra and Mewar region of Rajasthan and other similar regions, the approach of community based protection of commons like pasture and wastelands was very much required. We saw its replication both at family level (enriched biodiversity and higher production with planned intervention in private pastures) and at project level it demanded a medium sized project to cover a cluster of 50 to 100 villages. On the other hand the basic philosophy of promoting use of waste pasture and Devbani land of their capabilities with community based organizations like VDC and SHGs had higher potential.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The project attempted to very well link the practices of sustainable livelihood through strengthening resource base of village under the management of VDC, social benefits in terms of protection of pastureland for regeneration of biomass and grass production for the fodder of animals, conservation of water resource linked to land animals and animal husbandry.
