The small processing unit was implemented according to plan, as well as the sales post. The courses were offered, the Annual Credit Fund was implemented, with a balance at the end of the project of 6,000 Brazilian Reais. Despite some delays in the completion of a few planned activities, the project may be considered a great success. Native fruit production and commercialization successfully brought an alternative source of income for the families in the community. This alone would have encouraged the conservation of the local natural resources, but the reinforcement brought by the capacity-building and awareness-building courses insured the clear understanding of the reason for this conservation in the community members. The association pointed out the following lessons learned: resolving unexpected situations such as delays; administration of resources not belonging to the association; marshaling of the community toward a common goal; perseverance despite gaps between planned and actual outcomes; appreciation of the environment in which they are inserted.
