Fortalecimento da Relação de Gênero entre os Subgrupos Comunitários de Santa Maria do Tocantins: manejo e pré-beneficiamento
This project seeks to contribute decisively to the strengthening of the Santa Maria do Tocantins Associations in São José and Soninho, in the social, economic, and environmental aspects. Efforts will be made toward the organization of subgroups in the communities in the municipality, created to execute activities passed on during the capacity-building courses, construction of a small pre-processing unit, implementation of a sales post, and the creation of an Annual Reimbursable Credit Fund. Association members will be offered training and qualification courses, a diagnostic assessment of native fruit in the rural communities will be carried out, native fruit collection will take place in the extractive areas, interchange among similar experiences will be promoted, sweets, medicinal and edible oils, soap and pickles will be produced in the small pre-processing unit, and the rotating fund will be implemented to provide the capital needed for production.

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
20 families of APAS members will benefit directly from this project, in addition to five other rural communities which will receive assistance. Extractivist areas will be mapped, identifying new species with economic potential for expansion of the activity, refuse from the small processing unit will be used to feed animals, fire will no longer be used for planting, springs will be recovered. All these environmental activities will provide natural resources which will be available for the coming generations.
Capacity - Building Component
5 courses will be offered in this project, although only three of these will be funded by SGP Brazil. Each course will be 24 hours long, and a total of 100 small farmers will receive training, 30% percent of whom are expected to be women. The courses offered will be: Local Use of Cerrado Sub-products; Planting Systems and Methods; Management, Accounting, and Commercialization.
