The water costs in the community were reduced by 15% as a result of the implementation of the project?s activities. Irrigation was upgraded and made more efficient. Environmental education was a priority, particularly in the regional schools. Activities such as the formation of a band playing percussion instruments made of recycled cans and gallons, with distribution of native seedlings to the mothers were very successful. A child was chosen each morning for distribution of high-chlorophyll juices. Alternative medicine was offered to the community members, with a high rate of adoption. A health study group was assembled to analyze different types of medicine. Nutritional alternatives were also explored. The main benefit of this project, however, was the possibility of offering low-cost medication and food to the community. Donations are frequently made to public hospitals which have a lack of funds for traditional medications. Organic production has improved the health of the participants and helped to feed the community. 2,000 native Cerrado trees were produced in the plant nursery, and were transferred to degraded areas and the gardens of local mothers, all of whom have become more aware of their environment.
