Institutional strengthening and capacity building for Mt. Kilimanjaro Tour Guides Association (KTGA)

This Project aim at facilitating formation and registration of Mt. Kilimanjaro Tour Guides Association and develop a guiding code of conduct for the tour guides.

The project will also provide training to improve Guides interpretation knowledge and skills on a landscape based tourism. The project will assist the guides to develop a forum for Tour Guides Association which will be discussing and negotiate with tour operators matters of employment and improvement of tourism industry with regards to biodiversity conservation.

This project is intended to improve visitor?s satisfaction through guiding and interpretation. The qualified guides will also earn mote income and thus increase family income.

The project's priority is young men and women from villages that surround Mt. Kilimanjaro. Majority of these are indigenous.

The training targeted Youth both Men and women to join professional tour Guide to as a means to create employment opportunities.

Project sustainability

Trainned tour guide's efficiency at work will increase foreing visitor satisfaction through improved guiding and intrepretation skills of which will improve tourism sector.

Project Results

Establishment of Tour Guides code of conducts in protecting nature and biodiversity will contribute in the conservation of natural environment. Trained Guides participate in the management of the mountain by ensuring that the mountain is clean and there is no littering along the climbing trail of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Formation and registration of the Kilimanjaro Tour Guides Association (KTGA) will help the guides to have venue for discussion with tour operator?s issues relating to safety and on job benefits.

Training of tour guides enhance increased income in the guide?s household as trained guides earn more money than the un-trained guide. A trained tour guide has a certificate and identity card.
