Conservation of river-plain wood and bush vegetation, containing different Red Book species, (in particular, Calosoma sycophanta L.) nearby Booterek village, located in the Talas river valley by re-planting of sea-buckthorn brushwoods and introduction of cultivation methods for sea-buckthorn brushwoods.
The Booterek village located in the Talas river valley. The main population?s sources of income are cattle-breeding and plant cultivation. 37families live in the project realization place. 30 of them have access to electricity but 7 don?t have. These 7 families consume 0.3m3 of firewood in a day. In terms of money it is 700$ for heating period. Such high price provokes people to illegal provision of firewood in the brushwood?s of river-plain. Cattle grazing in the river-plain damage to brushwood vegetations as well. The second reason of sea-buckthorn disappearance is recurrent drown of brushwood as a result of water level building up in the Kirov storage pond. After what the silt allow decomposition of sea-buckthorn rootage.
The basic idea of the project is conservation of sea-buckthorn bushes through re-planting them from drown zone to other safe place and introduction of sparing method of sea-buckthorn gathering.
In the course of project implementation it is intended obtaining of the following results:
Ecological
-conservation of habitat of Red Book species;
Economic
- additional income related with collection and processing of fruits of sea-buckthorn brushwoods
Social and cultural
It is possible participation in sea-buckthorn re-planting will change people?s attitude to brushwood as sources of firewood and barrier for cattle grazing.
Main actions to be undertaken by Public Foundation «Kenenbay»
