In the framework of this GEF SGP most participatory project on promotion and awareness rising of environmentally friendly transportation and healthy live style, five new bicycle storage places (each keeping 50 bikes) are constructed at local schools in the city. The schools were chosen based on their motivation, need and willingness of children to drive bicycles to their schools. Every school has also attracted 2,000 LTL of co-financing to this project demonstrating their true interest. Besides, 11 km of bicycle routs are marked and adopted for convenient riding are also the outcome of this project. These routes will join the existing bikes routs making the united bike route network in the city. The Municipality of the city is the main partner and co-financer of the project.
The project leaders have decided to ask for the amendment of the MoA, because during implementation of the project they have realized how important is the unique Museum of Bicycles for the promotion of the ecological transport in the city and whole Lithuania.
AB ?Baltik vairas? and Lithuanian Ministry of Culture have provided co-funding to the renovation of the Museum of Bicycles that will be used as main object to popularize this type of transport firstly among the youngest citizens that hopefully will show the example to their parents: drive bicycle safely while protecting yourself and the other from air pollution and noise.
Special SGP stand that gives information on climate change, SGP programme and its projects as well as other bicycle promotion projects implemented in Lithuania will be placed in the Museum. Special leaflets for easy and convenient reference will be placed next to the stand for the visitors.
