Siquijor Integrated Management of Coastal Resources
The project will undertake a community-based conservation of coastal and marine resources of Siquijor including support system to enhance the living conditions of the coastal communities.
The biodiversity significance of the project sites has been established by the resource assessment undertaken by the SCFHPI with the Siliman University.
The project will rehabilitate and protect the coastal and marine environment of Siquijor Island with its primary objectives:
1. Organize and strengthen fisherfolk communities in selected barangays;
2. Assess and evaluate the biological and ecological condition of their coastal and marine environment (mangrove and coral reef);
3. Formulate an integrated coastal resource management plan for each barangay which will be incorporated in the municipal development plans;
4. Establish mangrove nursery and rehabilitate selected mangrove areas;
5. Establish marine reserves in selected areas;
6. Assist fishing communities implement alternative livelihood activities;
7. Strengthen coordination of all concerned government and non-government organizations operating in the island.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
Activities include social infrasture building and strengthening, biodiversity conservation and resource tenure improvement (including establishing tenurial rights over 15 kilometer municipal waters), community strengthening, IEC, and productivity systems development (livelihood).
The training and seminars, actual hands-on experience on mangrove re-planting, establishment of nursery, establishment of marine reserve, and actual lobbying with different concerned agencies are the very activities that build the capacity of the people's organizations.
Direct project partners are fisherfolks and coastal communities from seven (7) barangays.
Gender Focus
Communities' involvement whether men, women or childredn are all enhanced in the project implementation and specially during the monitoring. The project is building-up communities' skills in leadership and managment so they will be able to sustain the effort of the project evenafter the project period.
The fisherfolk communities is the prime mover of the project. The communities are directly responsible in convincing/lobbying their respective local government units for support towards the protection and rehabilitation of their coastal and marine environment.
