Craft Academy & Creativity Project
The Primary Objective of the project is to raise awareness and action for environmental protection, by using global and national environmental themes as a source of inspiration for creative training projects that will:
· Improve the income levels, quality of environment and quality of life of people from ?vulnerable groups?
· and Help the children of these communities to re-engage with learning through new creative experiences
The specific objectives of the project are to:
(1) Train 18 out-of-school youth in environmentally-aware craft production through a year-long full time course - to build the necessary skills for participants to establish viable environment-aware, high-value craft entrepreneurships - with significant immediate and knock-on impacts in environment protection and income-generation potential within vulnerable groups. And Repeat the above course for a new intake in January 2003.
(2) Replicate the above out-of-school youth course to include a second group of 18 out-of-work young women, through partnership with Women Entrepreneurs NGO.
(3) Train trainers - from up to 10 NGOs and CBOs in creative approaches and their use in raising awareness about our environmental and how we can act to protect it. All of the projects developed by the participating NGOs/CBOs will have environmental protection and local quality-of-life impacts, it is expected that some will include entrepreneurship training and thus also have income generation impacts.
(4) Train 50 government school teachers - from schools that serve children where many are not achieving under traditional didactic teaching ? in creative approaches for environmental education, and their integration in a cross-curricular teaching approach. Thus helping these teachers to develop appropriate skills for teaching in their working context, with significant potential impacts in environmental awareness, educational environment and achievement for these children.
