Biodiversity Conservation and Policy Formulation In and Around Snake Island and Honda Bay
This is a 3km strip of sand bar, with the seaward side covered with mangrove forest. It was the site of an extensive mangrove planting project.
The project intends to develop a community-based management plan for the conservation and protection of resources in and around Snake Island and Honda Bay, specifically covering three (3) coastal communities, Maryogon, Salvacion, and San Rafael. Emphasis shall be given on the active participation of the coastal communities that are dependent on the Island and Bay for income.
The objective of this project is to enrich the biodiversity status of the Snake Island with emphasis on the active participation of the coastal communities of Honda Bay to supplement low-income earnings of the coastal communities and develop awareness-raising activities and structures information installation for biodiversity conservation.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
Cross Visits of PO leaders will be made to gain sufficient knowledge in resource management by visiting the CBCRM project site of UNDP-funded project in Bohol Marine Triangle.
The youth members of the PO families shall be capacitated on resource management through environmental youth camps to be facilitated by Haribon Youth membership leaders.
A sustained radio program will be used for community consultations and to intensify information and education activiies for the biodiversity conservation of Honda Bay and Snake Island.
Notable Community Participation
The empowerment process and establishment of sanctuary management board is the main strategy of the project to established genuine, self-reliant, and self-sustaining communities.
PO communities in the project site will intensify their patrolling activities and monitoring in fish sanctuaries and resource management areas. Deputized fish wardens will conduct population activities and apprehend illegal fishers in resource management areas around Snake Island and Honda Bay areas.
