A Pilot Project on Awareness Raising on Climate Change at GRSE
A Pilot Project on Awareness Raising on Climate Change at GRSE
Project Delayed.
Grand River South East is a fishing village having about 1500 households. It has also an active small planters community. The other economic operators are the Deep River Beau Champ Sugar Estates and a hotel known as Laguna. The village life is structured through the Village Council and a certain number of local organisations exist including: Women, Youth, the Ageing and Fishermen organisation. The current project has given itself the ambition of contributing in changing the mind set of people in the context of climate change and create conditions for the people to take actions at their individual level within their household and at community level.

It is a pilot project on awareness raising at Grand River South East around the issues of sea-level rise and global warming. The project will not confine itself to the traditional information campaign but it will give people the personal support they need to change their ingrained habits of how they use resources at both household and community level. In order to achieve these objectives, CEDREFI will be organising the following activities:
1. A participatory base-line survey at the village level (Audit of households use of resources like water, electricity and generation of domestic waste
2. A two day workshop for the popularisation of the of climate change and sea-level rise issues for the stakeholders of Grand River South East
3. The development of the awareness raising programme
4. The adoption of energy-friendly technologies, i.e. energy saving lamps
5.The restitution of the results to the community
