Leveraging Best Practices
This project aims to conduct a systematic effort to capture, document and share best practices of SGP grantees and partners. As a result of this project, stakeholders will gain a deeper appreciation of the gains achieved by the Small Grants Programme during the last decade through a variety of communication media.
A proactive project, this proposal shall address the recommendation of the Biennial Programme Review of the Philippine Programme in February 2002 on the need document and best practices and learnings of SGP-funded projects.
The project aims to:
a. undertake an evaluative follow-up study of all previous SGP grantees;
b. document lessons learned and best practices in print, website, and video forms;
c. develop a GEF workshop: design, facilitators manual, handouts and audiovisual materials in two versions featuring:
- deep ecology module for urban participants, for re-establishing personal connectedness with nature; and
- global perspectiveness and sustainable development concepts for rural participants, and orienting them into the GEF framework
d. disseminate lessons learned (leaflets, vignettes and video) to all past SGP grantees.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
Community participated to this team by attending lessons learned meetings which is basically a process of eliciting, understanding and documenting some knowledge assets and sophia from best practitioners. It is understood that much of the knowledge assets and sophia in people are tacit (unexpressed, unrecognized or undocumented knowledge).
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Future SGP grantees, particularly prospective project leaders, will obtain useful knowledge on what works best in the area of work similar to theirs, lessen the likelihood of repeating mistakes, re-use or adapt work templates that had been developed and made workable elsewhere, be sensitized to the success and danger factirs as well as facilitating and hindering factors that may affect their projects, and obtain a deeper gut-level appreciation of interconnectivity in Nature or deeper understanding of the GEF conceptual framework.
External stakeholders both within and outside the Philippines will gain a deeper appreciation of the gains achieved by the UNDP GEF/SGP during the last decade through a variety of communication media.
