Findings
1. 52 solar heaters were installed through the project and it was planned to install 50 units .
2. It was noticed that the installed units are working effectively and all water pipes are well isolated that will increase the efficiency of solar heaters.
3. Interviewing the beneficiaries showed their happiness of the project outputs.
4. The NGO trained three technicians on how to install and maintain the solar heaters. The technicians are qualified to carry out all maintenance activities.
Problems:
The NGO failed to spread the idea of improving the traditional oven since the majority of the resident are using gas ovens.
A visit was made to the project locations in Old Cairo.
Findings:
1. Although it was planned to improve 11 pottery ovens during the lifetime of the project the NGO was able to improve 22 ovens till now and its expected to improve 4 more in the next few months. the difference was covered through the fund of Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). Interviewing the beneficiaries showed their happiness of the upgraded units since it satisfy their needs and in the meantime reduce air pollution in the settlement without jeopardizing the livelihoods of the settlers.
Problems:
Since the target area of the project is still under development by Ministry of Environment and Cairo Governorate, the electricity is not yet connected to the electrical ovens.
