The project reached its end with a high rate of acceptance by the local population, which regards it as a feasible means of ensuring sustainable livelihoods for both the people and the biome. The scheduled fair trade initiative management courses were successfully executed. Organic agriculture workshops were held, as well as courses on ecotourism and tourism, food security. Gender-related activities have been a challenge, since they challenge long-established customs. The participation of women has improved greatly, however, in activities such as community health care, fruit collection. This project has put a lot of effort into bringing more equality to the women and fight discrimination. The lack of proper transportation was a major difficulty faced in the project. Children who came from the rural areas to study in the urban areas served as a means of communication, since transportation was so difficult ? roads are in such poor condition that cars are often stranded either in the mud or in the sand. Ensuring a continued minimum level of income is another difficulty, since commercialization has only been possible in events and fairs, which are sporadic. A vehicle with scheduled visits to the communities as well as a community radio program, and partnerships for increased sales would be solutions to these problems. The following activities took place during execution of the project: construction of a kitchen; an agroecology workshop was held; workshops were also held in handcrafts from Cerrado plant fibers, agroindustry, commercialization, ecotourism, community health care, gender, and reproductive rights; participation in the regional fair trade forum; numerous lectures and shows for dissemination of the project?s activities. All these activities were attended and/or executed by rural and urban workers. The relationship between these people and the Cerrado was effectively strengthened, with a deeper understanding of the biome not as a source of charcoal, but as an extension of the self. Good relations with numerous other groups in the region and beyond were also established. In addition, the lesson that the small can make big differences was well learned.
