The project was executed according to plan, and finished on schedule. However, some difficulties were faced. Some activities which were necessary for the success of the project had not been originally planned, and required additional funds to be undertaken. This delayed the implementation of the plant nursery and the conclusion of an environmental impact study. The importance of the exchange of information with other communities who have had similar experiences and initiatives was a lesson learned due to these difficulties faced. Reserving a part of the budget for activities not originally planned is also something the grantee plans to do in the future. Direct benefits to the environment were numerous, with emphasis given to the Municipal Law for Protection of the Pequi Tree and the Pro-Pequi State Law. Environmental awareness was increased, the production of native species for reforestation was encouraged, research was directed toward conservation of the biodiversity, sustainable use and species reproduction. On the mid to long run, the quality of life for the families involved is expected to improve drastically, with the increase in rural income and appreciation of local culture, conservational practices, and new partnerships. There is high potential for replication of the activities, through the dissemination of the experience and the lessons learned. Innovations such as the Pequi de-pulper, liqueur manufacturing Pequi flour and oil at the industrial scale, knowledge about the reproduction of native Cerrado species (Pequi, Mangaba, Buriti, Cagaita), and also research on the Pequi plagues were brought about by this project.
