The following indicators were chosen to measure the success of the initiative: frequency and evaluation of the student progress, revised and adapted school curriculum, organization of three quality cycles, submission of four projects to different sources, development of a strategic plan. According to the final progress report, all objectives were accomplished, with expectations having been surpassed in some cases. The main difficulty faced was the need to increase duration of the course from 800 to 1400 hours. This was due to the introduction of paid professionals in a volunteer organization, causing a change in perspective. The conclusion reached as a result was that personal expectations must be taken into consideration as well, rather than just the collective interest for the communities. The following activities were undertaken during execution of this project: development of a school curriculum approved by the State Education Council for a Sustainability Management Technician course; graduation of the first class, with 20 students, named by the community organizations; development and management of four projects including management of a bio-reserve, a meeting for the Chapada populations, promotion of local rural traditions, and a promotion of a cultural week; organization and implementation of a field training unit; a school-inn was implemented; a project and venture incubator was implemented; touristic routes were established. The direct benefits were the qualification of leaderships capable of clear perception of the changes occurring in the region, with critical vision and entrepreneurship. The contribution to conservation of the environment and higher income for the families involved directly and indirectly (suppliers of food and products for the tourists) determined the success of this initiative.
