Caimbé: Uso e Conservação dos Recursos Naturais Encontrados nos Campos Cerrados de Soure e Salvaterra, Arquipélago de Marajó, Pará (Fase I)
This project seeks to rescue use of natural resources found in the local Cerrado fields, thus conserving its biodiversity and local culture. The marajoara Cerrado fields are disconnected areas of the biome found within a different biome; the Amazon. Conservation of these fields is highly recommended in numerous workshops, and important for survival of the segments of this biome found on the Marajó islands. To accomplish this goal, an inventory of the natural resources found in the Soure and Salvaterra Cerrado fields will be assembled and evaluated. The uses of these resources by the local population will also be registered. A regional conference will be held, gathering the users of these natural resources, aiming at conservation of the biodiversity in this ecosystem and traditional knowledge on the subject. A workshop on the products obtained from these resources will also be held.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Local Cerrado biodiversity and its resources will be conserved, and consequently, popular knowledge of the biome and its particularities will improve. The products will generate an alternative source of income for the families, improving the quality of life. This will serve as a catalyst for future initiatives involving participative social, political and economic organization. Good results will serve as subsidies for the implementation of public policy targeting sustainable development.
