Integrated Sustainable Conservation of Rameh Village Rangelands
Project location:Rameh village, Garmsar, Semnan(Lat/Long:35.1962560-52.3278810)
Rameh Village is one of the pilot projects of UNDP Land and Water Project (Desertification Project). During the workshops and implemented projects, the villagers showed remarkable capacity and potential. The Women's CBO of Rameh Village is one of the results of this project. Promoting the capacity of the local community will help achieve a better management of the national resources, especially rangelands.
The overall goal of the project is to develop and practice a participatory and sustainable local management plan for rangelands of Rameh Village. The Women's CBO with the participation of the villagers and stockbreeders will try to change the current rangeland deterioration by decreasing the livestock, implementing a grazing management plan, enclosure of rangeland, controlling the duration of grazing, proper dispersion of livestock, seeding and hill droppings of species appropriate for the rangeland. The project proponents will also engage in income generating activities e.g. cultivating endemic medicinal plants such as Barijeh as part of the rangeland revitalization. Other activities include awareness raising, capacity building and documentation of the project process. Finally, CDs, booklets and videos on the lessons learned will be prepared to disseminate the best practices which will be shared through two workshops in Tehran and the project site.
