Doi Ku Bia Conservation
Following the government?s Energy Conservation Educational Project in 1997, the target community realized the need for natural resource and energy conservation and subsequently
established the High Efficiency Stove Fund and Forest Conservation Group. This prompted the survey of the forest ,a source of food and household energy supply. It has been found out that the forest has been consumed incautiously leading to the scarcity of household energy and gradual exhaustion of other natural resources.
By encouraging learning process and building capacity for community-based organizations on sustainable management of natural resources and environment coupled with coordination and cooperation to collectively solve this problem at community level can be attained with the benefit, though seemingly small, accruing to the region and global at-large.
Project goals or objectives (including GEF problem-area addressed by projects):
1.To develop skill and build capacity of target communities on participatory , sustainable management of natural resources
2.To develop networks among CBOs? and concerned sectors on local management of natural resources
3.To stress the value of natural resources and subsequent collective rehabilitation and conservation among target communities
Activities to be carried out under project:
1. Conducting training on community forest management and high efficiency stove fabrication
2. Formulating Community Forest Regulation, Data & Information Centre, Three Dimension
Map and curriculum for Nature Study
3. Demarcating & classifying forest areas and fire-break
4.Launching plantation of native trees
5.Establishing High ? Efficiency Stove Fund
Project participants and/or beneficiaries:
1.Regional Community forestry training Centre for Asia and Pacific(RECOFTC) provides technical advice on organizational development and natural resources management
2.Wat Phra Thadu Mae Chedi provides advice and preexisting facility for training
3.Wiangkalong Kindergarten Schools provides relevant educational services
Anticipated results of project:
1.Emergence of 45 capable community leaders as resources person reaching out to target population, regulation of forest use , reforested area of 16 ha/year
2.Annually 400 persons using the natural trail
3.Reduction of fire-woods/charcoal by 100 tons/year , equivalent to Baht: 390,000:
4.At least 15 members from each village being able to manage wild fire and monthly monitor the forest
