Conservation and Sustainable Use of Agro-Biodiversity- An Integrated Pilot Project on Rice Farming in Sarawak.
The project will create economic incentives such as premium price for their traditional varieties of rice, extra incomes from the ducks, fish and herbs. The project also hopes to initiate and sustaian some business sense among the farming communities where their produce will be marketed in the vicinity of the village. This will inevitably attract local tourist, local sudents and other local communities nearby. It will also provide employment and help to reduce the presence of rural and urban migration.The mission of the project is to create awareness, facilitate research, foster education on the application of modern technologies for improving the productivity of tropical food and agricultural systems whilst conserving nature in the context of sustainable agricultural development.
The objectives are to
- Create multiple knowledge lighthouses as educational resources to facilitate knowledge dissemination on the links between food, agriculture and the environment.
- to provide information related to the role of modern agricultural technologies.
-to mobilize resources from within Malysia and the Asia Pacific Region to promote awareness, research and education on the links between food, agriculture and nature.
