Festival of Environmental Journalism (Attraction of wide public attention to the global environmental problems, and stimulation of journalists and increasing of their professionalism and more serious approach in illuminating of environmental problems by realization of festival of ecological journalism)
Now the environment degradation problems draw more steadfast attention of the public. The greater part of the information is received through mass media: newspapers, magazines, TV and radio. But, despite of it, the level of ecological journalism in Kazakhstan remains very poor and the theme of environment preservation beyond interests of mass-media. Environmental issues are not so popular as economic and political ones. It isn?t easy for journalists to push the nature protection materials ahead.
The journalist should demonstrate persistence and professionalism in illumination of the theme to be succeed. Even solid editions, TV and radio channels don?t have enough financial resources to support correspondents specializing in nature protection subjects, therefore it?s very difficult for regular journalists to quickly penetrate into a theme and competently highlight it. As a result, uninteresting articles and TV-broadcasts with a lot of mistakes take place, and they bring more harm,

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Within the framework of the project the information on festival, its purposes and tasks will be widely distributed through the regional resource centers. At the preparatory stage of the festival journalistic works devoted to the environmental issues highlighting will be collected. To attract more attention of various target groups, press conference will be conducted and the results will be distributed through mass-media, electronic mass-media, plots on radio and TV. The best works will be selected by jury and nominated with special premiums. The festival results will be spread out through mass-media and the works of the winners will be shown on the central TV channel
