Fuel Efficiency for West Bugwe Forest Conservation.
The project is implemented in West Bugwe forest reserve in eastern Uganda by Tororo Youth Development Association in partnership with East African Energy Technology Development Network in eastern part of Uganda. The forest has lots of flora and fauna and is threatened with degradation from unsustainable human activities. The GEF focal area addressed is biodiversity conservation and land degradation. Activities promoted include woodlot establishment, tree nursery management, conservation education and efficient fuel saving technologies. The project was specifically designed to ensure the sustainable fuelwood utilisation to conserve energy and diversification of livelihood options for purposes of conserving the forest resources from degradation and ensuring sustainable agricultural productivity

Notable Community Participation
The communities living
around the West Bugwe Forest formed Eco-institutions through which the
Project Management Unit is to disseminate information. School management
committees are run by the local populace.
Gender Focus
The immediate target beneficiaries of the project are
local people especially women and youths. Selected women groups serve as
demonstrators of excellence in energy efficiency and environmental
conservation.
