Buhoma Community Water Gravity Scheme for Conservation of Biodiversity in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Buhoma Community Water Gravity Scheme for conservation of biodiversity in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP) is a gravity water scheme drawing water from a source point within the parkmanaged area. The scheme is adjacent to BINP where the endangered mountain gorillas (Gorilla Gorilla Berengei) and other primates are known to range.
Water is one of basic necessities of life an thus providing adequate safe water, promotion of good hygiene and sanitation of the population in proximity to the park is a key contribution to improved conservation management of Bwindi?s biodiversity. BINP is world heritage site and a home to many endemic and endangered species of fauna and flora including the mountain gorilla

The beneficiaries of the gravity water scheme are Buhoma Community Rest Camp Development Association a local CBO in the western part of Uganda (Kanungu district)and local people.
The Problem: Encroachment and human traffic (behavioural disturbances) are experienced, and threats of disease transmission to the gorillas and the other primates threaten the conservation of BINP. One of the reasons for illegal entry to the BINP by communities is the harvesting of water from springs within the park. This activity becomes a pretext for communities to carry other illegal activities such as poaching
