Environmental benefits: The newspapers supplement ?environment and Development? has a multi-environmental focus in biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, POPs elimination ?etc.
Information dissemination/awareness:
15,000 copy of the newspaper supplement were distributed monthly and each copy is read by 4-5 members of the family to accumulate overall readers of 75,000 for each edition.
Electronic version of the newsletter was visited by 11,354 clients through out the year.
The emerging environmental problems addressed in the supplement have opened up new ideas for interventions and brought up to the surface successful stories of environmental projects with indigenous experience.
It created a platform for debate among the community which was illustrated in the phone calls/e-mail feedback, letters, and replies on the newspapers?etc. Adding to that some provocative articles and reports were elaborated by the satellite TVs in special TV programmes. Reports and photos were also quoted for several purposes by the Ministries of Agriculture, Health, planning and education and the Authorities of Water and Energy.
Capacity building: Built up endless linkages between the grantee and NGOs, universities, researchers, journalist, community groups and government organizations. A National advisory committee was formed at an early stage of project to provide the necessary support for the project team in both technical and developmental aspects.
Replication: The support of the supplement has continued for anther year with co-funding from the SGP and the UNDP TRAC support.
