Environmental benefit: The project contributed to the decrease of air pollutants in the surrounding area of one of the main cross roads in the Gaza city. The pollutants CO², CO, HC and NO2 decreased by %67 in the peak hour due to shortening the waiting time of the vehicles which in turn decrease the gasoline consumptions.
Awareness: The project increased public awareness in sustainable transport modalities and air pollution causes. This was achieved through conducting traffic surveys and pollution assessment before and after the project as well as workshops, installing street signs, distributing brochures and producing local radio clips.
Capacity building: The project installed the inductive loops and detectors for piloting flow responsive traffic lighting modality. Such technology transfer has developed the capacities of the grantee and partners to adapt the new technology to the local needs and seek for locally manufactured supplementary parts to reduce the costs.
Partnership: Partnership with the Municipality of Gaza and the Ministry of Transport has promoted the project idea at the national level and thereby scaling up the project idea in other junctions, might be highly possible.
