Indirectly women of Klopot can be the main (together with LOP) beneficiaries of the project.
Learning by doing - improvement of LOP's capacity in project implementation, here -investment project which demands more skills and managerial knowledge in project design and implementation.
Policy Impact
Number of visitors (every weekend from 50 up to 300 tourists, mainly from Germany) caused higher interest of local government; road was improved, land-marks can be found;Klopot influence local policy substantially...
In 2005 Klopot start to apply for participation in international network of white-stork villages in Europe (Pentowo got it 4 years ago)
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Permanent exibition is describing the role of white stork in preservation of wetlands not only on a local scale; various gifts (posters,publications,leaflets,brochures,postcards received from other white stork's museums and NGOs are bringing the global context of white stork protection
Notable Community Participation
Project designed on purpose in such a way that local community is involved,LOP is not acting as "parachuter", but sharing the museum and profits with local people, involving them in organisaton of local festivals,workshops; women are asked to assist with bigger groups (there is no facility excluding simple hostel kitchen)-in advance 2 households are informed and prepare meals for groups of visitors (Germans mostly) generating income;list of trained ,prepared women is growing, initial the lack of confidence is breaking through gradually.
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
a great potential for sustainability (income from visitors and sale of ecological gifts should cover all operational costs including salaries of permanent warden and people providing environmental services during season of April-August and generate income to cover activities for the rest of year (workshops, trainings etc).
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
growing potential for local people to provide services (meals, horse, carriage riding etc) and generate extra income;it is a long process in the border area, where smuggling is more( but also more risky!) profitable income.The museum is a chance for women to participate in extra income generation.It should be stated again - it is a slow process, effects can be reached gradually, as village communities belong to the most conservative and naar
Project Results
adaptation of building for Museum ,information center and hostel; good potential prospects for project sustainability.It is up to marketing skills of LOP to manage green schools (necessary extra equipment, eg. beds) , good information services for individual tourists and groups; necessary staff/volunteers speaking German (potential the biggest group of visitors);
during implementation weak capacity in managing investment project wee observed (lost control over hired company, big debt and delays in payments (exceeded budget), finally thanks to assistance from HQ in Warsaw and personally Mr Wladyslaw Skalny, Chairman of LOP, extra funds were found. It must be said that comparison of LOP Zielona Gora in the beginning of initial contacts (beginning of 1997) and in 2003 - visible progress is observed, more attention given to active protection of habitats and species supported by ecologcal education and publication.i
