Environment and Socio-economic Enhancement in Twal al Janoubi
Over the coming two years, That An Nitaqayn Women Charity Society and the local community of Twal Al Janoubi/ Deir Alla district east Jordan Valley will be implementing this project which will contribute to the sound integrated management of natural resources in the Jordan Valley in order to protect the fragile biodiversity of the Valley?s unique ecosystem. Local community members will be involved in the micro-management of their resources, diversifying and enhancing their means of livelihood. The project will support small income-generating activities at the household level, such as organic agriculture, bee-keeping, home gardens and poultry and livestock raising in addition to public awareness and training related to project activities. Capacity building was provided to the NGO and the local community of Twal Al Janoubi by the Canadian Company ?Komex International? over the past two years.

Notable Community Participation
Community mobilization has started a couple of years back, leading to the formation of a local committee that included representatives form the CBO, the municipality of Twal Al Janoubi and other partners, including technical assistance. Community participation was very effective in need identification, planning and designing of the project and will continue through implementation.
Gender Focus
The CBO is a women organization, though a couple of men do participate effectively in the local committee. Priority will be given to women when selecting beneficiaries of the revolving fund and special attention will be given to insure women participation and capacity building.
