Potential global benefits of the project
Thanks to the project the natural walnut forests in buffer zone of Sary-Chelek national biosphere reserve were protected. The project stops out planting in the natural forest by creation of artificial nursery and plantation. The nursery (the area ? 0.5 hectares) is for cultivation of saplings from seeds of wild-growing fruit trees. Saplings then will be planted in a plantation (5 hectares, it is expected, that in future the square will be increase to 20 hectares). It will be possible to take young growths from plantation, without any damage to natural walnut forest.
Link the practice of sustainable livelihoods to a GEF focal area
The walnut forests are under strong anthropogenesis influence (gathering of fruits, cutting for firewood, grazing, and haymaking). Out planting of young growths of wild pear, apple is added to mention kinds of influence in stows of Batkak, Semiz Bel, Takyr Dobo. Young growths are used for inoculations to cultivars. Thus, the young growths of the trees included in the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan or being endemics of the Central Asia are being destroyed (Central Asian pear, pear of Korjinskogo, mountain ash of Turkistanskaya, apple of Nedvedskogo, Persian mountain ash, and hawthorn of Knorring). Project was directed on demonstration of alternative or additional to cattle-breeding economic activity. Fruit bushes and trees may be used for internal needs (jam, compotes) and for external sale as a raw material for medical products. The saplings of Knorring hawthorn, Nedzvedskogo apple and others may become an additional source of the income if there be demand on them.
Community driveness of the project
The local population protects plantings of destruction by cattle. Plantings works were carried out collectively, all population, including children, took part in plantation work. The future looking after saplings will be carried out by families which have showed the interest to take care and participate in marketing.
Capacity ?building component
The population does not get new skills in plantings, because the local population has been engaged in agriculture since long time ago.
Gender focus
There is not gender approach strongly expressed in the project, but a part of potential jobs, (looking after saplings, sale) will be attractive to women in Arkyt village.

Co-financing received
Co-financing from Public Association ?Muztor? in cash is $, in kind is $.
The main kinds of co-finance were labor on saplings planting and labor of local forestry specialist which helped to project with consultations. Contribution of local authority (allocating plot) is explained by interesting in increasing rent payment for plot which will in the future not pasture but forestry territory.
Replication in other communities or regions
This project is appropriate for replicating in analogous geographic conditions countries but for it necessary to solve the plantings protection problem. There are no plans on up-scaling the project to a medium-sized GEF.
Links between this project and the overall GEF
Links between this project and the overall GEF follows from public awareness on global environment problems, it will carried out by propagation of the main aims of the project - rehabilitation the habitats of flora and fauna species, which are included in the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan and direct reproduction of endemics.
Influence on government policy
There is no obvious influence on government policy on National level but the land allocated by local authority for project implementation is illustration of project influence on the local level.
Benefits achieved for/ by participants during implementation

 The actions under the project preserved species included in the Red Book that is the direct contribution to preservation of a global biodiversity will be emphasized at seminars and other advocacy actions

Assessment of impact of project in the GEF focal area
Project corresponds to Operational Program 4 GEF/SGP ?Mountain Ecosystems? and provides biodiversity preservation through protection of allocated 5 hectares of land (20 hectares in the future).
Policy influence
Kyzyl-Tuu Ayil Okmotu (local authorities) gave to rent 5 hectares of land to PA ?Muztor?.
