Increasing of efficiency of heating houses by implementation energy and heat saving technologies.
Main idea of the project is propagation and introduction of a set of energy and heat efficient technologies in At-Bashy district, which the most high mountainous administrative district in Kyrgyzstan. The set of technologies includes:
- Traditional dungangs` (Chinese muslim people) heating system "Kan" (smoke duct is placed into under floor space and provide more heat capacity than usual Russian type stoves)
- Elementary heat isolation of houses (closing the roof by frontispieces, double window frames and doors, isolation of the ceilings by ash, closing cracks
- Constructing of biogas units
- Planting fast growing trees (poplar and willow) as alternative for wood cutting in river plain and mountainous forest
- Training of the group of builders on construction of ?Kan? heating system and exploitation of biogas units
Quantity indicators of the project activities are: 20 biogas units, 50 heating systems, 60000 seedlings and saplings, 3 trained groups, including representatives from other high mountainous district of Kyrgyzstan (Chatkal and Alay) .

Project Characteristics and Results
Gender Focus
Biogas will facilitate female work in the countryside. Women will not need to kindle fire for cooking and waters boiling.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Introduction of heating systems and elementary heat isolation of houses allows to reduce fuel (coal, wood, dried manure) consumption nearly twice. Increasing of indoor temperature allow to reduce the number of cold illnesses. Plantings of fast-growing trees will improve situation with wood and building materials in the long term. The biogas installation will allow to achieve reduction of expenses on heating of houses and, in parallel, to receive clean manure fertilizer for agricultural needs. In addition, volume of fertilizers will considerably decrease in comparison with volumes of crude manure used as fertilizer. Introduction of biogas units will reduce using of kizyak (dried manure), that will result in improvement of sanitary conditions both inside house, and in a court yard.
