Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Nkayi Community is involved in the production and sale of crafts. The project will assist the community to build a craft production and marketing centre at Sivomo Business Centre where the products will be sold and this will help the group to raise income to improve their livelihoods. Other markets will be explored in local tourist resort areas such as Victoria Falls, Matopos, Great Zimbabwe and Hwange National Park. Nkayi Folk Development Foundation will also approach Zim Trade for information and to get contacts for the regiona and international handcraft dealers
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Nkayi is very rich in terms of the biodiversity resources and is one of the few ares which still have pockets of ilala palm. Through this project a lot of awareness will be raised on how to conserve and sustainably utilise the resource which is almost facing extinction. Communities will also be made aware on the importance of protecting the trees which help to serve as carbon sinks.
