Improvement of sanitary and environmental conditions in Venta river valley
Venta village is situated in Akmenë region, in the territory of Venta National Park. The village was founded on 1950-1960 with a plan to connect it to the Venta town that is why buildings were not supplied with sewerage and was not adapted to keep livestock. As there are no dung-yards, villagers keep dung near the cattle-sheds. After rain all dirt drifts to the Venta River and also to the bore-wells. After chemical analysis of water in gutters and bore-wells cleared up that some of them are polluted and exceeds the norms by up to 200 times.
Main objectives of the project:
1. To arrange surface waters collection gutters;
2. To construct 2 dunk-grounds, 3 dung wash collecting tanks and a dunk-yard
3. To install a sewerage system in 6 houses;
4. To install a water-supply system in 6 houses;
5. To rise awareness of local people in Venta and other 15 towns and villages in Venta Regional Park about ecological farming, dunk control, ecology, hygienic and sanitary standards, GEF/SPP program, and the project itself;
6. To stimulate villagers to join the community and to increase it in 25 per cent;
7. To maintain premises of the community and to buy 2 computers, a printer and install the Internet.
