Working Within the Systems and Living Within the Means: 10 Years of SGP in Pakistan
Project goals or objectives:
q To document and share experiences and lessons learned by SGP funded grassroots initiatives
q To identify issues which could be addressed in future support for development and implementation of local level environmental initiatives
q To evaluate the level to which SGP funded initiatives have had an impact on awareness levels of local communities with regard to environment
q To disseminate lessons learned and establish a network of SGP partners for networking and information sharing
Activities to be carried out under project:
q Produce and disseminate a background report on selected SGP funded environment and conservation initiatives (based on 20-25 Case Reports)
q Organise a three-day lesson sharing workshop of SGP beneficiaries and other concerned stakeholders in Islamabad, to be held in August 2003
q Document and publish proceedings and outcome of the workshop and share the same with concerned stakeholders and SGP partners
q Prepare a web-based knowledge and information network (up to 18 months) which will be initially utilised for pre-workshop registration of participants, posting of pre- and post-workshop information material
q After the lesson-sharing workshop, the web-based knowledge and information network will be operated as a networking and information sharing tool amongst SGP partners, donors and other concerned organisations and individuals
q Monitor and maintain knowledge and information network as a forum for discussion and information sharing for advocacy and resource mobilisation.
q Organise special supplement/ articles in Jarida around environmental initiatives at the grassroots.

q Select GoP officials from concerned ministries and agencies
q Organisations that have utilised and/or worked with SGP grants
q NGOs, and CBOs concerned with small-scale environment & development initiatives at grassroots
q Select international and national organisations active in the area of environment, conservation of biodiversity, climate change and water in Pakistan.
Anticipated Results/ Outputs of Project:
q Lessons learned, by key stakeholders, about constraints, opportunities and challenges in local-level environmental initiatives will to lead to improved planning and implementation of future initiatives
q The information network would serve as a forum for discussion and information-sharing and would raise advocacy on the importance and strength of local level initiatives and will lay the foundation for NGOs and local government interactions, resource mobilisation and strengthened partnerships
q Development of a ?networked? community of conservation and development professionals freely and frequently exchanging information and ideas
q The web-based knowledge and information network will be handed over to SGP after 18 months of the current project so to serve SGP and its partner NGOs in future.
q Launching of SGP funded books such as Green Pioneers, Climbing Out of Poverty and Can the Public Sector Deliver.
q Delivery of Final Reports on the project focusing effectiveness of SGP?s 10 years in Pakistan.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
All grassroots organizations will be invited to the workshop those who completed their projects and can share their experiences and lessons learned during implementation of their project.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The prime objectives of the proposed initiative are to (1) generate knowledge about experiences of small scale development and conservation initiatives at the grassroots level, with a view to drawing and disseminating lessons learned: (2) identify issues which future support for development and implementation of local-level development and environmental initiatives could address.
