Development of Ecotourim as a way to Enhance Community Based Conservation Management in Hulu Mahakam, East Kalimantan
Project Development Goal :
To conserve Hulu Mahakam area, through community participation and development of environmentally sound economic activities.

Project Objectives :
1. To increase the community?s capacity and to stimulate the establishment of local organization to support traditional community based nature resource management through implementation of environmentally friendly economic activities development
2. To develop a model on community involvement in nature resource management, which combines conservation effort and environmentally friendly economic activities
3. To stimulate policy dialogue which is necessary in order to strengthen project success potential

Expected Outputs :
1. Increasing community?s capacity in nature resource management which is supported by local organization
2. Emergence of community based nature conservation model
3. Emergence of environmentally friendly economic activities which is supported by sustainability strategy
4. Emergence of local policy support, especially related to community based ecotourism development
5. Emergence of stakeholders awareness on ecotourim importance, to be used as a potential source related to local area development (local authonomy).

1. Capacity building :
 Training for TOT Facilitator
 training for CO
 PRA
2. Data collection and participatory mapping :
 Collection and compilation of secondary data
 Study / inventory potentials of traditional conservation area
 Study on ecotourism development potential
 Study on community based economic potential
3. Planning workshop :
 Compilation of traditional conservation planning
 Compilation of ecotourim development planning
 Compilation of community based economic development planning
4. External socialization :
 Public hearing in order to disseminate information and gather stakeholders collaboration support
5. Project implementation based on management planning :
 Implementation of conservation planning through village meetings etc
 Implementation of ecotourim development planning e.g : management border establishment, information center establishment, development of documentary film, compilation of information kit and cross visiting
 Implementation of environmentally friendly economic activities planning e.g : local institution building, training on management, management of revolving fund and promotion / marketing
