Consolidation of Umbwe Onana Irrigation Project
This project on consolidation of Irrigation activities in Umbwe Onana irrigation canal aim at expanding area under irrigation by extending water distribution canals to new farms.
Expanded irrigation facilities will increase the number of farmers in irrigation and reduce the number of people depending on agriculture for their livelihood as well as reduce number of un-employed people in Umbwe society.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
Community members will contribute labor, cash and materials during project implementation. Community members will also be responsible for running the scheme. Community members will elect leaders who will be trained in leadership skills.
Capacity - Building Component
One hundred (100) farmers will be trained in water management techniques. Twenty (20) village technicians shall be trained in operation and maintenance of the canal. One hundred (100) members of Water Users Association will be trained in good governance.
