Launching environment awareness campaign

Conserving biodiversity through working in parrallel directions; to reinforce the implementation of the environmental law by involving decision makers as well as the school pupils and teachers to develop their understanding of the conservation methods and to utilize the potential resources (natural and man-made) using an interactive educational methods.And arranging a follow up mechanism for pupils in the selected schools through introducing out-door activities and promoting pupil-to pupil method to insure dissemination of information to the rest of the school pupils. Throughout the project, environment school clubs will be established to insure smooth integration of environmental education into biology, geography and other classes as well as exploring new information and encouraging the children voluntary attitudes to conserve environment

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

Organizing a workshop for 30 employees particularly (decision makers) from ministries of Local Government, Agriculture, Environment Quality Authority and the General Public Forces aiming at reinforcing the environment law of biodiversity protection in Bethlehem Governarate, organizing a workshop for teachers (female and male) aiming tat introducing the activities of the public awareness campaign and clarifying the role of the teachers in mobilizing pupils for the campaign, launching public awareness campaign targeting 800 school pupils from grade 8 through engaging them in one day training in the Center for Environment Education to introduce the concept and elements of biodiversity conservation, adopting the ?Bulbul? figure as a symbol of the campaign, using audio visual material (LCD show, video show, distributing training material and field trip) to demonstrate the rich natural heritage of the site (animal, birds), bird watching, reinforcing environment friendly behavior and identifying the emerging problems of in the Palestinian environment and brain storming on potential solutions.

Project Results

Environmental benefit: The project addressed the lack of awareness for conserving biodiversity particularly birds as it become noticeable that bird hunting is very common luxurious hobby for teenagers. Therefore, the project targeted 800 students and 110 teachers, and raised their awareness on the importance of biodiversity particularly the birds of Palestine It also introduced out-door activities like bird ringing and promoted pupil to pupil method to disseminate information to the rest of the school pupils. That was facilitated through establishing 12 environment school clubs for 542 students (boys and girls) and teachers? environmental committee to work in various schools to follow up the project activities and encourage the children?s voluntary attitudes to conserve the environment.
Public awareness: The project enriched people awareness on the importance of biodiversity and birds of Palestine through producing and distributing 1000 copy of the first book in Palestine titled ?Birds of Palestine? and 1000 copy of a booklet called ?bolbol in Palestine?.
